Our Available
Pups...
A
note about our adoption donations
*Adoption donations are based on but not limited to: health, age, and
sex of the pup. Adoption donations range from $50.-$750. You may ask
"Why would you charge an adoption fee? Why not just place in a good
home?"
The
answer is: because we rely heavily on these adoption fees in order to be
able to take in ALL Yorkies in need. A
young, healthy dog may cost us $200-400 in vet care, and have many homes
interested in adopting him/her. An older or sick yorkie, or one with
health issues can easily cost $500-1500+ in veterinary expenses. He/she may
require months of foster care for rehabilitation or expensive surgery; yet we can only ask a
minimal adoption fee. Often times these are also the same dogs that
don't receive as many inquires for adopting. Please keep in mind that the adoption donations of younger, healthy
dogs help defray the higher costs of the veterinary care of older,
injured or sick dogs.
We
hope that people looking to adopt through
Yorkies Inc. are
willing to give an opportunity for a better life to ALL of our dogs by
supporting them through adoption fees.
We are a non-profit organization. Without these
adoption donations we would not have the funding to take in all yorkies
in need.
Yorkies Inc.
completely vets every dog we take in. All dogs are groomed given a
complete exam and brought up to date on all vaccines. They are
also given a dental cleanings, spayed/neutered, heartworm tested and any
medical needs and needed surgeries are met before placement.
If you are looking for to adopt to "save money" or "don't want to pay
breeder prices" please check your local shelters. We are only
interested in loving responsible homes that are willing to commit to the
care and up keep of the pup for a lifetime. If you are not willing to
pay the adoption donation now you are likely not to pay for quality food
or to see to the pups health care needs in the future. Remember we are
looking for our pups to become family members and cherished companions
not a convenient impulse purchase.
|
If
interested in adopting with Yorkies Inc please submit an
adoption application. We always go to applications already on
file when dogs become available. Thank you so much for
considering adoption! |

Austin

Austin is a healthy 9 year old 6lb male who is looking for his
forever home. Austin would do okay in a home with one other
dog but would also love being an only. He loves to cuddle and
follow you around the house. Austin rides well in the car and
loves to go for walks. He loves to explore outside and would
therefore enjoy a fenced in yard. Austin is pretty well house
trained he uses both pee pee pads and goes outside however he
will need reinforcement in his new home. If interested in
adding Austin to your family please submit an application. Any
questions please contact his foster Mother at

Kiwi

Meet
Kiwi! Kiwi is our newest special needs pup. Kiwi is a 7 month
old female who weighs about 3.5lbs. Kiwi has been diagnosed with
Liver Shunt and will need surgery to repair the shunt, so she
can lead a normal active life. Without surgery Kiwi's liver will
not be able to properly rid her body of any toxins causing her
to become very sick. Kiwi is currently on a low protein diet
and many supplements in order to get her healthy and strong
enough for surgery. She is scheduled to have surgery in two
weeks. Kiwi's surgery will be expensive costing between
$2400-$2900. If you would like to become a friend of Kiwi's and
make a donation towards her surgery we would be very thankful.
Please use the PayPal button, all "friends of Kiwi's" will be
listed below. Any questions please email
kerri@yorkiesinc.com
Update 8/22/10: Kiwi will be going in for
Surgery on Monday August 23rd. Please keep her in your
thoughts and prayers.
Update 8/24: Kiwi made it our of surgery and is in
the intensive care unit recovering. Kiwi had one very large
shunt in an area which was hard to get too. Due to this her
surgery was long and more intensive than originally planned.
Dr. Kochin was able to close off the shunt and spay her at
the same time. The next couple days are critical for Kiwi to
make sure that there are no complications from the banding
of the shunt. Please continue to keep her in your thoughts.
Update 8/28/10: Kiwi is home and doing well. She has a very
large incision with staples and must wear an e collar so she
does not bother the area. But she is eating well and glad to
be home. She goes back for a recheck on Sept 7th. We
will still need to run another Bile Acids test in the future
to be sure she is doing well, but so far so good. Her
surgery and care while at CCVS was 2,486.28. Thank you to
those who have donated so far and have continued to send
your well wishes.

Dexter &
Danny

Dexter and
Danny are two male pure breed Brussels Griffons. Dexter is 16
months and 7.2lbs of pure personality. He is a red rough coat
variety. He has a nice
stocky build and loves to cuddle. Dexter has an amazing
personality and everyone just loves him.
Dexter hasn't met a stranger he's a great clown!
Danny is 13 months old and 8lbs is is also a rough coat variety
and the color is called "Belge" (tan w/black tips). He is active
& fun... a little shy at first though. He has been with us for
about 3 weeks and he's come along way and is much better about
being so timid though we think he will need time to settle into
a new home too.
Danny is the shyer of the two and really relies on Dexter to
gain whatever confidences and trusts he has.
He is sweet and loves to be held and snuggles in once he trusts.
Both
do very well with other dogs.
Together they are two of the nicest pups we have ever had in.
Love this breed!!
Originally we were adopting these two out separately but
since
we have had them we have noticed that they play very well
together and seem quite bonded at this point. We are now looking
for a home where they could remain together...or if separated
both be going to a home where there would be a playmate close in
age and size to them. They both love to play for hours and
entertain themselves well...and us just by virtue of being them!
Both pups were released by
their breeder who had planned to show them but decided against
it. They will need some work with house
training but should learn quickly as Griffs are smart pups. They
are up to date on vaccines and have been neutered and micro-chipped.
If you're looking for a pup
that will entertain, charm and delight you on a daily basis,
this is your breed! They love to run and play on the beach or in
the yard. This breed was featured in the film "As Good As It
Gets" with Jack Nicholson; the dog really was central to the
film plot. Hanging out with these guys, you'll see why pretty
quickly. They are smart, affectionate, playful and curious.
They seem to be speaking to you with their eyes. Brussels Griffons are a very uncommon breed. If interested in adopting Dexter please
submit an adoption application. Any questions email Cathie@yorkiesinc.com |

Tadpole

Tadpole
is our newest special needs puppy. He is just a "Tad" of a puppy
at 1lb and just 9 weeks old. Tad has had an injury to his front
paw and we are hoping that it can be corrected. The injury is a
few weeks old so we are praying something can still be
done....he wasn't old enough to leave him mom before now. He
will be seen by the orthopedic specialist this week. Tad is not
ready to be adopted but if you can help with a donation to his
veterinary expenses and surgery we would be very thankful. All
donators will be listed as a "Friend of Tad" Please use the PayPal button below. Questions please email:
Cathie@yorkiesinc.com
Update 5/13/10:
Tad was seen by the surgeon on Tuesday. We were told that
Tadpole has a congenital dislocation in his elbow. This has made
his wrist contract and twist along with the rest of his front
leg. We were told we could either allow him to grow as is and he
would adjust and learn to walk on three legs, if the front leg
bothered him as he got older we would need to amputate. OR we
could attempt to correct the dislocation with surgery. The
surgery would be to repair the dislocation and set the elbow
with a pin. They would also likely have to set the wrist joint
as well. This may allow him some movement and use of the leg as
he grows. However he is so young and small right now we could
not pursue the surgery right away. Instead the surgeon has
suggested we give him a couple weeks to gain size and strength
and to allow him to get his first course of vaccines prior to
moving forward with surgery. Surgery has been set for May 26th.
Please keep Tad in your prayers.
Update 5/26/10:Tad
is out did well with anesthesia but the surgeon had some
disappointing news. Tadpole's leg is much more deformed than
he originally thought.. Once he started to operate he could
see that it was more twisted than Xray had shown. He was able
to get the elbow aligned and pinned but wrist was much more
problematic as was the shoulder as well. Tad is in a splint
now and will go home tomorrow if all's well. BUT surgeon is
not confident at this time that Tad will gain use of the leg.
We are still hoping for the best and it could easily go either
way....either leg will not stay straight and may pop back out
or if we are very very lucky it may straighten somewhat
as he grows. The vet said he will not know much more now
for a couple of weeks when splint is removed.
Thank you all for your well wishes, prayers and support!
6/23/10:We have good news to
share about Tad!! He was seen today by Dr Kochin who was
thrilled that leg still looks straight and that Tadpole is
just starting to put some weight on it after a week without
splint. He will be kept low key and go for another recheck in
two weeks. But at this point at least it looks...
like he's going to have some use of a now straight leg!! We
are hoping he continues to use the leg more and more each day
and it remains as straight as it looks now. If so he has far
surpassed what was expected.
7/10/10: Tad was seen by the
Vet for a recheck on Thursday. Dr Kochin was excited to see
Tad starting to use the leg quite well. His elbow and
wrist continue to remain straight and he seems to be gaining
strength in the leg. The shoulder does seem to be the most
noticeable now that he's using the leg more. But Dr
Kochin said that something could be done for that later on if
it continued. Tad is still just a Tad at 1.9lbs 4 months old!
Dr Kochin would like another recheck in a month to see how the
leg is coming along as he grows (hopefully )and if we
need another surgery for the shoulder.
8/6/10: Tad was seen by the
surgeon on Thursday and given a thumbs up! No more visits
needed. Dr Kochin is thinks Tad has done wonderfully and so do
we! His front leg will never be completely normal but it's
straight and he uses it normally...runs, jumps plays and is
just a crazy little puppy. He still needs to be neutered and
his rabies vaccine done and then he can go to his new home.
Tadpole is not yet house trained but will use the pee pad when
close by. He would do best with another small dog as a
playmate as he is a very active little guy who's favorite
thing is to terrorize his foster brothers and sisters. He's
still very puppy and under foot. Tad is now 5 months old and
weighs just 2lbs. We expect that he will weigh only about 3lbs
full grown. For this reason he will not be placed with young
children or big dogs as he will always be a fragile pup. We
hope to find a home with tiny dog experience. If you feel you
would be a good fit for Tadpole please submit an adoption
application as he is now looking for his forever home.

Chompers

Chompers is a 2 1/2 year old
male Yorkie who weighs about 4lbs. Chompers was surrendered by
his owner due to her not having the time to care for or train
Chompers. He is currently being evaluated by a dog trainer for
behavioral issues. While Chompers was very lovable to his
prior owner and is to his current foster Mom he becomes very
protective of his "owner" and will bark, growl, nip and even
attempt to bite someone who comes near her while in the house.
Chompers responds well to positive reinforcement, such as
being given a treat, from someone and takes correction well
from his foster Mother such as a little squirt from a water
bottle or the stay command. However his new home will need to
work further with his training and reinforcements on a
consistent basis.
We are looking for a one person household for Chompers.
Ideally this home would have prior experience working with
terriers, up for the commitment, a fenced in yard as Chompers
loves to run and explore outside, and does not have children
visit the house on a consistent basis. His new home must be
willing to continue to take Chompers to behavioral training.
One other dog in the in the house would be fine as he likes to
play with other dogs. Chompers loves to play with squeaky
toys, cuddle on the couch, and go for walks. He does very well
in the car but will bark at people when going through a drive
through. He is also house-trained, but would need
reinforcement in his new home.
12/20 Chompers has begun to really play with the other dogs in
the house. Since this has happened he seems to be more relaxed
and comfortable. He is always trying to get one of them to
play with him and when that fails he grabs a toy or a chew
bone. Chompers is still being protective of his foster Mom
however, the intensity has decreased. If he is very familiar
with the other person visiting and they have given him some
treats or played toys with him he is much better with them and
will not go after them. He may bark at them but this seems to
be more out of fear and being unsure.
1/11 Chompers went to the Animal Rescue League for an
evaluation. Dr. Marder felt that much of Chomper’s behavioral
issues were due to fear. The goal of his training is for
Chompers to begin to realize that he does not need to be
afraid of people. This consists of a lot of positive
reinforcement from people when they enter the home and
corrections only from his foster Mom. Chompers is responding
well to this however he still has his moments. At those times
Chompers is kept on a leash which is working well or confined
to a room when he cannot be watched. Chompers is beginning to
respond well to stay command.
2/23 Update: Chompers continues to make
improvement. He is tolerating visitors to the house and
beginning to realize that they will give him treats. He is
fine with his foster Mother's good friend coming over to visit
on a regular basis and does not need to be on a leash. He
however still needs work when it is someone he has never met
before, for this we do keep him on a leash. Dr. Marder feels
that Chompers is doing well and is ready to be adopted by that
special person. This special person will live alone, have a
fenced in yard, and lots of love to give Chompers. Chompers
loves to play with toys, go for rides in the car, and to
cuddle with you at night. You will also need to be committed
to Chompers and his continued training and learning. If you
feel you are that special person please contact his foster
Mom.
3/12 Chompers went to the groomers and
was excellent. Once his foster Mom was out of site he gave
the groomers kisses and even rolled over for a belly rub.
Chompers has also been going to doggie daycare one day a
week and has had no issues. The staff are able to pick him
up, pat him and carry him to his foster Mom with no
problems. He seems to enjoy running and playing with the
other dogs at daycare. The only time we are seeing any major
issues is when Chompers is with his foster Mom and someone
else that he does not know very well. He then becomes
protective of his foster Mom.
7/14 Chompers is still looking for the perfect forever home.
Chompers continues to improve. Chompers has become a very
happy dog who loves to play with other dogs and squeaky
toys. He is also always excited when his foster Mom comes
home. He does a little dance till she picks him up. He also
is one of the first ones at the door when it is time to go
for a walk. He is now fine with four different people that
visit his foster Mother on a pretty regular basis. It may
take him a few minutes to warm up but then he is okay with
them and will go over to them to be picked up to have his
belly rubbed. His foster Mother no longer needs to really
use a squirt bottle to stop his barking or growling. All he
needs is to hear a sharp "no bark" and he stops and comes
over to her. He is even taking treats from strangers at the
dog park. Chompers is doing well and we feel he is ready for
his new home as long as they realize he will always have
trust issues with strangers. Because of this he will
always need to be under supervision during these times.

UPDATE:
August 2010
Cupid went to the vets for his monthly check up. While Cupid continues to do so much better since the trachea stent operation he still has congestion in his lungs and permanent lung damage. After talking with his vet at length about what his future care is going to consist of Yorkies Inc has decided to make Cupid their first Forever Foster. While we had hoped that Cupid was going to be able to find a new forever home, like all of our other special needs pups, this is not going to be a possibility given the damage and congestion of his lungs. Cupid is going to need to remain on various medications for life which are going to cost over $125 a month and he currently still requires monthly x-rays of his lungs. Due to these expenses and the degree of care Cupid needs Yorkies Inc feels it is only right for Cupid to become a forever foster where we will ensure all his vetting needs continue to get met.
If you would like to become a sponsor of Cupid's or to read his whole story please use the link below to go to our Forever Foster page.
Yorkies Inc. wants to thank everyone who has supported Cupid. Without your support we never would have been able to get Cupid all the medical care he has needed. Your contributions helped Cupid reach his 1st birthday and hopefully many more to come. Again Yorkies Inc and Cupid thank you. |

We
thought with the recent Liver Shunt pups we should give you all more
background on this dreadful condition that is become more prevalent
in our beloved breed. Below is a link to some success stories
including Bella who came into
Yorkies Inc in early February
2006. She is
now known as "Paisley" Please take the time to read her story and
that of the other Liver Shunt Survivors. Through this link you can
also find other links for more info on Liver Shunt's and what it
means to the pup and the owner. We'd like to thank a good friend
Stephen Glass for featuring Paisley and getting the word out about
